Sólvangur is the place to visit if you love horses or even if you are just a little curious about them, as the team strives to educate and give people the chance to get closer to the Icelandic horse. Our team at Sólvangur has a lot of experience and knowledge in the field and the horses are well trained quality horses. So, whether you are an experienced competition rider seeking to improve your skills or if you would just like to get to know and meet our amazing horses – Sólvangur has something to offer you. If you do not find what you are looking for - please contact us and we will help you to design your own horse based adventure :)
Unfortunately we do not have a horse rental - which means we can not offer any trail riding for people with little experience. We would though gladly recommend a good place to do so :)

Stable visits

Would you like to meet our horses and get to know something about them? The Stable visit is an informative guided tour into the stable (ca. 30 minutes), where guests can meet and learn about the Icelandic horse (history, training methods, specialty, gaits, breeding goals etc). Guests are welcome to pet the horses and take pictures of them. During the stable visit guests might run into other animals such as our dogs and cats.

Children rides

Children from ca. 3 - 15 years old can have their first riding experience at Sólvangur where they help with grooming the horse and ride a horse which is being led by an instructor. Parents can stay with their children during the ride if wished and take photos. The children rides either take place in the riding hall or outside on the oval track - depending on the weather.

Riding lessons

The riding lessons are designed to meet individual needs of riders in all levels, from beginners to advanced riders. Every lesson is private and conducted by a certified riding instructor. The horses are well educated quality horses, ranging from calm, trustworthy, easy tölting horses to high scale competition horses.

Lunging lessons
– improve your seat and balance
A lunge lesson is a riding lesson where an instructor guides the horse on the lunge (basically a lead rope or a lunge line) and the horse travels around the instructor in a circle. This is a very good method for beginning riders because with someone else controlling the horse, the riders can concentrate on their balance and seat position and begin to develop what are called independent seat and hands. Lunging lessons can also be very good for experienced riders as it allows them to concentrate on certain areas of their position. Every lesson is private and conducted by a certified riding instructor.

Private riding experience for advanced riders

If you have been riding horses (Icelandic or others) on a regular basis we can offer a private 1.5- 2 hour riding experience which starts with a lesson inside and ends with a short tour outside. This is though only available for experienced riders or riders that have been attending some riding lessons at Sólvangur before.

If you wish to stay or visit us for a few days we can combine the riding lessons with riding tours and/or sightseeing. The riding tours can only be provided to riders that are used to riding the Icelandic horse or people that have improved their riding skills on our horses in riding lessons before. We can though gladly arrange trips for beginners with our next door neighbours.
